Effectiveness of Various 5G Modulation Techniques in Different Weather Conditions

One of the most ambitious technologies applied for the transition to 5G telecommunications is the Millimeter Wave (MMW) transmissions, i.e. the allocation of bandwidth within the Extremely High Frequency range. However this technology poses significant challenges, including susceptibility to phase distortion due to weather conditions. In the current paper, the commonly used Orthogonal Division Frequency Multiplexing (OFDM) transmission scheme and the more recently proposed Filter Bank Multi Carrier (FBMC) method were tested with respect to weather-induced phase shift phenomenon. The results reveal that the use of FBMC, under certain conditions, outperforms the use of traditional OFDM and it may be a leading candidate for 5G communications
