UPFC Power Flow Tracking using Decentralized Discrete-Time Quasi-Sliding Mode Control

This paper deals with the synthesis of a controller for a UPFC (unified power flow controller) device based on Decentralized Discrete Time Quasi Sliding Mode Control (DDTQSMC) method to achieve tracking of real and reactive power references, through an EHV interconnection. Based on UPFC's discrete state dynamics and discrete sliding mode technique, the proposed DDTQSMC control circumvents weaknesses of classical linear continuous controls as they lack robustness and transient accuracy. After establishing the dynamic model of UPFC in discrete state space, the DDTQSMC controller is designed based on the plant dynamics and discrete time sliding mode theory. When it is applied to control the EHV interconnection, the DDTQSMC method is validated via numerical simulation by showing really accuracy, effectiveness and robustness proprieties of the proposed controller.
