Optimal Perturbation MPPT Technique for Solar PV System using Grey Wolf Optimization

This article presents an optimal perturbation MPPT technique using grey wolf optimization algorithm to obtain maximum power from solar photovoltaic system working under uniform and variable irradiance condition. The algorithm is designed by combining direct duty cycle control and GWO technique. The most frequently conventional techniques are perturb & observe and hill climbing MPPT techniques but these techniques exhibits multiple drawback such as lower tracking efficiency, oscillations at MPP and incorrect decision making of algorithm when system subjected to variable irradiance. Drawbacks of conventional techniques are mitigated in proposed MPPT method. The performance of controller is justified by comparing with traditional MPPT technique in terms of tracking efficiency under uniform and dynamic irradiance profile. Results shows that designed controller perform better under variable environmental condition.
