Iron Loss and Thermal Analysis of High Speed PM motor Using Soft Magnetic Composite Material

Aircraft electric motors are required to have characteristics of less size and high efficiency while traditional motors are difficult to meet it. In this paper, a low iron loss, low temperature rise and high speed BLDC PM motor with soft magnetic composite(SMC) stator has been proposed, and compares it with traditional laminated materials in iron loss and temperature.The equation of iron loss for SMC material and traditional lamination were obtained by fitting the loss experimental data. According to the distribution of stator magnetic density, the stator is divided into four parts, and the stator iron loss can be calculated by the equation. The accuracy of the equation is verified by finite element analysis. The temperature simulation of the motor is carried out with the calculated iron loss. The results show that the motor with SMC materials have better iron loss and temperature characteristics, and higher power density.
