Derivation Method for Reliable Initial Design in Design Optimization Using Dot Sensitivity

In design optimization, an improper initial design can make the final design converge to a local optimum and increase the time required to obtain an optimal design. Therefore, it is important to determine an appropriate initial design. This paper proposes a novel technique to obtain a proper initial design, using a dot sensitivity analysis. The obtained initial design is close to the optimal design, in most cases, because it is obtained based on a sensitivity analysis. Thus, it can prevent the problems caused by improper initial design. A design optimization problem is tested to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.
