3D-Printed Scanning Dielectric Lens Antenna

This paper proposes a beam steering flat dielectric lens antenna working at 60 GHz. The lens antenna is manufactured with a rapid prototyping 3D printer using low-loss ABS material. The antenna is excited through a single element patch antenna for innovative low-cost applications. The beam steering will be achieved through the integration of innovative Plastic-MEMS magnetic actuator that was recently developed at CIARS at the University of Waterloo. The new structure has potential in applications that requires beam steering, low-cost, and less complexity of current phased array antenna systems. The simulation results showed high gain of 18 dB and scanning angles ± 10 degrees in all directions.
