Pattern Reconfigurable Dielectric Resonator Antenna Actuated by Shorted Parasitic Elements

A novel pattern reconfigurable cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna is presented. It is based on mode excited by the probe located at the center of dielectric resonator. Centrosymmetric parasitic elements on the lateral wall of cylindrical dielectric resonator and the corresponding diodes between them and ground plane are used for actuating different radiation pattern. It has omnidirectional state and beam-steering capacity. When 16 parasitic elements are adopted, 16 maximum beam directions states are equally distributed with interval of 30° in the azimuth plane under diodes ON in proper order.
