Capacity Assessment of VAR Compensation in Distribution Network using Multi-parametric Programming

The increasing integration of distributed generation (DG) brings new problems to distribution network and requires more VAR compensation device to cope with overvoltage problem. In order to allocate VAR compensation device reasonably and assist planning and construction of VAR compensation, capacity assessment of VAR compensation is indispensable. This paper proposes a new method to conduct capacity assessment for VAR compensation on distribution network based on multi-scenario optimization method by introducing the multi-parametric programming. The new method handles the uncertainties of loads and DGs efficiently and can facilitate more scenarios to refine the solution. The tests on the IEEE 69 buses system shown the proposed algorithm correct and efficient.
