Asynchronous Distributed Dynamic Economic Dispatch in Active Distribution Networks

An increasing number of distributed energy resources (DERs) have penetrated into distribution networks causing great challenges to energy management. The promising solution is distributed optimization where each area optimizes its own subproblems via limited information exchange with neighbors. However, most distributed methods require synchronization which may be impractical due to various local computation ability and communication delay or loss. This paper presents an asynchronous distributed economic dispatch strategy in active distribution networks (ADNs). Firstly, unlike traditional model, active power & reactive power (P-Q) coupling characteristics in ADNs are considered shaping the dispatch more reasonable. Then, an asynchronous fully distributed alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM) algorithm is developed. The proposed method enables each aggregator in ADN optimize their own subproblem through limited information exchange with neighbors in a more flexible and efficient way. Finally, the investigated scheme is validated by numerical tests.
