Autophase Traveling Wave Tube without Resistive Coupling Jump for Operation as Amplifier and Converter

A novel design of autophase traveling wave tube for operation in amplification and electromagnetic energy reverse conversion modes is described. Independent supply of electromagnetic energy into bunching section and autophase section is proposed, implementation of bunching section as a section of backward wave tube is examined. This allows switching from amplification mode to reverse conversion mode simply by changing the sign of the electric field in autophase section. A version of the device with multiple energy inputs/outputs in the autophase section is also proposed. Simulation results of the proposed design are presented.
