Impedance Method for Electromagnetic Beams (IMEB) in Multilayered Gyrotropic Waveguides with Thick Cover Layer, Propagating and Leakage Modes

We present here a new impedance method for modeling electromagnetic beams (IMEB) propagation in a multi-layered waveguide with gyrotropy and inhomogeneities of the complex dielectric permittivity tensor and a thick cover layer above the waveguide. The useful (for modelling characteristics of electromagnetic (EM) waves/beams) feature of the proposed method is that the effective impedance is determined analytically taking into account the impact of the cover layer large thickness. This impedance approach is applicable to a wide wave frequency range (from VLF to optics), so, the technique can be applied to the electromagnetic waves of artificial, such as microwave or optical waveguides, or natural origin, for example, for the radio waves emitted by the ground VLF transmitters or lightning in the waveguide Earth-Ionosphere.
