Design and Realization of a High Transmission X-Band Radome for Low-Speed Flight Platform

The aerodynamic performance and electrical characteristics of X-band radome for high transmission applications is discussed in this paper. According to the transmission model of microwave incident radome, A-sandwich structure radome and the calculation method of transmission rate were established. The influences of parameters such as structure parameter, material dielectric constant and incidence angle on the transmission rate and the wind load of radome structure were simulated. A sample of the X-band radome was developed and laboratory tests were carried out. The laboratory experimental results show that the developed X-band radome has a transmission rate of greater than 94% in 9.4-9.8 GHz frequency. The radome sample was tested on a certain airship. The test data shows that the radome has a transmission rate of more than 90% in the fixed frequency range during the flight test. Simulation and test results provide guidance for the research of airborne X-band radome under low-speed wind load and high transmission applications.
