Model Order Reduction of Active Distribution Networks with TSO-DSO Interconnection Power Flow Control

This paper describes a methodology for model order reduction of active distribution network models based on non-convex metaheuristic optimization. The resulting reduced models can be used for power system stability studies implementing fully controlled active distribution networks. The methodology is demonstrated by the reduction of a power-exchange-controlled, radial II-bus modified CIGRE test distribution network. Both the reduced and the full system are simulated in the time domain to gauge the fidelity of the reduction. The results show significant dynamic equivalence and hint at strong possibilities for this type of grey-box model order reduction.
