A Method for Distribution Line Impedance Calculation Based on Metering and Distribution Data Integration

Knowledge of the line impedance of Low-Voltage (LV) distribution network is the basic of a distribution system analysis and intelligent prediction, such as power flow analysis, line loss calculation, control strategy, fault prediction. The accurate impedance value also provides the potential to evaluate the condition of the distribution assets. Power companies have acquired a huge amount of smart metering and distribution data via smart grid implementation in last decade. This paper provides a method of calculating the line impedance of LV distribution network based on metering and distribution data integration, it utilizes voltage, current, active power and reactive power data collected by smart sensors such as the Transformer Terminal Unit (TTU), the Circuit Terminal Unit (CTU) and smart meters to calculate the distribution line impedance value. The whole calculation process can be achieved by smart sensors with the edge computing capability.
