Improved Time Synchronization Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks based on Clustering

Timing-Sync Protocol for Sensor Networks (TPSN) is an important time synchronization algorithm in wireless sensor networks. A clustering-based algorithm is proposed, which can solve the problem that when number of levels increases, local clock offset difference also increase to multi-hop TPSN. The algorithm realizes the whole network time synchronization between cluster heads and cluster heads with cluster members. Finally, the article gives the simulation from the aspects of synchronization error and message overheads on NS2. The results show that improved algorithm roughly gives better performance as compared to TPSN protocol.
