Effect Of Nanoparticale’s Shape on Solar Pond Efficiency

The present work presents a numerical study concerning one-dimensional transient heat conduction in a shallow solar pond filled with Al
₂
O
_3--
Water based nanofluid. The relevant energy equations were solved numerically using Rayleigh, Hamilton - Crosser and Lambert-Beer's approaches. The discretization of the partial derivative equations was performed according to the finite volumes method. The considered external parameters were the shape of the nanoparticles (NP) and the aspect ratio. The results of the six different cases of NPs' aspect ratios, showed that the nanofluid with oblate spheroids NPs (dp = 0.13) led to a significant improvement of the heat transfer and the energy storage compared to the spheroid case. At different prolate spheroids, the solar pond temperature was enhanced with the aspect ratio.
