Optimization of Control Variables in Laser Welding of Dissimilar Materials Using GA Approach

The Automation of welding process is very essential nowadays in order to attain high production rates and high quality of welded joints. To automate any process, first it is very much essential to find the optimal control variables. The optimal process parameters or control variables can be found out by following certain procedure or methodology which includes conducting experiments as per the Design of Experiments, Prediction of models, formulation of optimization problem and finally solving the optimization problem using optimization technique. This paper presents the Genetic algorithm technique for finding the optimal control variables. This is a general technique which can be applied to any manufacturing process beside welding process. Based on the optimal results attained at the end of the research, the welding process can be automated. Thereby it is possible to reduce the manpower involved and welding cost.
