Plasmonic Colors and Memory with Al Metafilms

We proposed an all-aluminum metasurface for dynamic optical displays and high-density data storage. The metasurface is composed of aluminum nanoantennae attached on aluminum back-reflector. When illuminated with broadband light, such metasurface reflects a broad palette of colors with a rotating polarizer and analyzer. Based on this feature, customized color sequences are created to enable high-density data storage. Also, another metasurface consisting of aluminum gap-plasmon-type centrosymmetric “i-shaped” dimmers is proposed. Full-color generation is theoretically achieved by adjusting the resonator dimensions and polarizer angle.
