An Equivalent Transmission Line Model for Predicting the Electromagnetic Interference Suppression Characteristics of Ferrite cores

In this paper, an equivalent transmission line model (TLM) is proposed for predicting the suppression characteristics of ferrite cores by making use of their material characteristics provided by the manufacturers. The effect of increasing the number of turns of wire, wound around the core is also evaluated. A test jig is fabricated to validate the model. Experiments are performed using the test jig and the scattering parameters are measured from 100 kHz to 100 MHz. In addition, a square wave, which is a common noise waveform in digital platforms, is applied to the jig and the suppression level is measured to verify the competence of the proposed model for its real-time application. It is found that the results obtained from the measurements are in good agreement with the predicted responses in both the experiments.
