Seeing a Single Atom Where it is Not

We demonstrate that spin -orbit coupling of light can lead to fundamental wavelength -scale errors in optical precision localization of sub -wavelength scale emitters using far -field optical imaging techniques. The effect occurs even for perfect, aberration -free imaging.
