Performance Analysis of MGT-Dish In George Town

Hybrid power system comprising a parabolic dish (PD), one of the concentrator solar power (CSP) technology and a micro gas turbine (MGT) was investigated in this study. A thermodynamic model of the system is developed, in order to simulate the off-design performance of the system and contribute to the major technical aspects of the concentrator, receiver, and gas turbine engine. Then, simulations are performed for different solar irradiance, yielding solar-to-electric power. Monthly performances result show the highest produce output power is on October which is 12837.28 kWh. While the lowest monthly output produce is on February which is 10771.83 kWh. The main results indicate output power is almost the same for these three days which is the difference in solar irradiance. Fuel consumption is very low at the highest solar irradiance as much as 80.01 litres/day. For the medium solar irradiance, the fuel usage is 121.2 litres/day and for the low solar irradiance, the fuel usage is 165.74 litres/day. This is a great deal that hybrid systems are defined as using solar and fuel at the same time, thus excluding thermal solar thermal alternatives using fossil fuels as a backup.
