Theoretical efficiency analysis of a buck-boost converter for wide voltage range operation

The paper is analyzing the efficiency and power losses distribution on the bidirectional buck-boost topology, commonly used in renewable energy and automotive applications. For these applications the converter can be developed with constant output voltage considering that the input voltage is variable in a defined range, while in future smart grids applications the need for output wide voltage range converter could become a necessity. Based on a PSIM model and simulation approach, the study is analyzing the performances of the topology considering that both the input and output voltages can evolve in wide ranges.
