Improved SBR Method for Backward Scattering of Ship Target Under Shallow Sea Background

In this paper, an improved shooting and bouncing ray (SBR) is proposed and validated to investigate the electromagnetic scattering from a ship above the shallow sea surface. The general idea is assigning different dielectric parameters to corresponding facets during the calculation of radar cross section (RCS) using physical optics (PO), meanwhile using backward tracing to update original geometrical optics (GO). The accuracy of the improved SBR is yielded by comparing with the numerical method multi-level fast multipole method (MLFMM) in commercial software FEKO. In addition, the statistical analysis of composite electromagnetic scattering characteristics of ship under shallow sea background is presented at last.
