A Simple Expression for Curved Rectangular Patch Antenna Pattern

In this paper, we analyze radiation pattern of a rectangular patch antenna with curved surface by mathematical approach. Aperture size of the curved patch antenna reduces somewhat in comparison with a flat surface, so that its gain slightly decreases and beam-width broadens. It is interesting and important to investigate how degree these characteristics changes by the curved surface. To employ numerical approach such as Method of Moment is adequate because electrical size of patch is generally small. However, we try to apply an analytical method to the curved rectangular patch antenna. This expression becomes to be effective and usable for a large size conformal array antenna. We derive the simple expression and show numerical results for the rectangular curved patch pattern.
