A 35GHz Microstrip Array Module Design for Reconnaissance Radar

This paper presented a microstrip array antenna for single soldier reconnaissance radar, and the antenna was designed operating at 35 GHz. This antenna module consisted of a series of vertically aligned linear arrays. Each of the linear array was formed by 8 micro patches connected by quarter-wave impedance transformers. The module was implemented by 6 lines linear array and improved with the concern of nonhomogeneous weights for amplitudes excitation. The calculated antenna gains on the H-plane and E-plane are higher than 18.7dB. Moreover, the side lobe level at 35GHz for H- plane is -11.4dB. And for E-plane, the result is -15.6dB. The feed networks were also optimized for impedance matching to eliminate the signal self-mixing. This module had a dimension of 46.32 ×32.39 mm

, which made it easy to install on the single soldier reconnaissance radar. The simulation results showed its good performance in applications.
