Mitigation of Interference from Strong Scatters in Remote Sensing Scenarios

Among many non-fossil energy sources, offshore wind farm is regarded one of the few approaches that are economically viable. However, the wind farm, which may contain hundreds of wind turbines, may form challenges for the operation of radars due to their scattering. In this paper, a novel structure is proposed for the wind turbine tower to reduce its radar cross section. This design utilizes the phase cancellation technique back scattering in the broad operation band. A series of simulations, which are based on the physical optics method, are conducted to verify that the proposed structure can effectively reduce the back scattering level and alleviate the interference problem introduced by offshore wind turbines.
