Torsional Vibration Simulation of The Crankshaft Based on AVL Excite Designer

This paper discusses about torsional vibration simulation of the crankshaft which is one of the important component of internal combustion engine. Torsional vibration simulation of the crankshaft is an important stage during development of the crankshaft design. In this study, a four-cylinder, four-stroke inline gasoline engine's crankshaft, with bore and stroke 86 mm, was modelled using Solidworks and AVL Excite Designer. In the first steps design, three-dimentional model of crankshaft was built using Solidworks software which is used to obtain value of moment of inertia of each component of cranktrain and was inputed to AVL Excite Designer. In the next steps, in AVL Excite Designer, shaft and torsional modeller as a actual crankshaft. In this simulation external loading was taken from data base AVL Excite Designer with variables load. The calculations reaction torque, torque of each element on the crankshaft, critical speed, moment of inertia, and shear stress of the crankshaft was resulted. The results obtained are used as valuable reference in the optimization and improvement to the crankshaft design.
