Impacts of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine under Different Rotor Temperature

Along with the development of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM), the variation of rotor temperature has become the main restriction of Electrical Vehicle (EV) motor design. In this paper, we mainly investigated the relationship between temperature and performance of the motor (output torque, efficiency map, etc.). Simulating results and analysis are given based on the CAE software ANSOFT, using a specific PMSM model equipped with Permanent Magnet (PM) with the grade N38UH. Several conclusions are given to provide a new perspective in motor R&D process, by adding the consideration of relationship between temperature and performance while remaining undemagnetized in normal working condition.
