Performance of FPGA Implementation of the Orthogonal Two-Channel Filter Bank for Perfect Reconstruction

Modern digital systems used in audio and telecommunications use benefits of multirate sampling techniques. Decreasing and/or increasing the processing frequency for purpose of processing or transporting the signal are used in order to perform tasks more easily and efficiently. In those systems it is essential that the processed signal is perfectly reconstructed, meaning that the change of the frequency did not introduce any distortions. However, certain deviations are expected to happen. In this paper, we focus on robustness of the perfect reconstruction with the orthogonal two-channel filter bank for multirate systems. Our implementation and evaluation show that the orthogonal two-channel filter banks for perfect reconstruction can be implemented in certain HDL systems with finite word length, performing nearly perfect signal reconstruction.
