Model-Based Architecture of Software-Intensive Intelligent Automotive Systems

Today's modern passenger vehicles are no longer mechanically driven systems but instead are more complex coordination of several onboard electronics and software enabled components consistently interacting with each other to automatically drive the car. This paper describes in detail the drift towards highly modernized software architectures which are slowly paving their ways into the automotive market. The automakers are relying on various artificial intelligent techniques to automate the functionalities of car. Future autonomous cars will totally be based on machine learning paradigms to plan, detect, steer, navigate or take important decisions in the traffic environments. Thus, there arises a need to define standardized frameworks and models to capture the functional requirements of intelligently driven automated vehicles. An overview of existing architectures is presented with suggestions on further advancements. Inter-disciplinary requirement engineering pertaining to mechanical, electronics and software is the current state-of-the-art for cognitive cars.
