Evaluating the Use of Different Flux-Gradient Functions in NAVSLaM During Two Experiments

Experimental data from two field campaigns (RED 2001 and CASPER-East 2016) are used to compare and validate variants of the Navy Atmospheric Vertical Surface layer Model (NAVSLaM) using different Monin-Obukhov similarity theory dimensionless scalar profile functions. These comparisons show that using the “Kansas”-type scalar gradient functions of the form Φ = (1-23ξ)-1/2 within NAVSLaM results in the best agreement between modeled and measured propagation loss for both experiments.
