Distributed Power Flow for Multi-region Power Grids with Hybrid AC-DC Tie-lines

HVDC has been widely used for large-scale power transmission in interconnected power systems. Therefore, joint power flow analyses of hybrid AC-DC systems become quite necessary, which help to reveal the AC-DC interactions during real-time operation and control. In this work, a distributed power flow model is proposed for interconnected power systems with both AC and DC tie-lines. The overall systems are divided into regional grids and tie-line areas. Then, the boundary coordinating equation is established to coordinate the power flow of different regions. The Jacobian-Free Newton GMRES (JFNG) algorithm is applied to solve the boundary equation. Finally, tests on IEEE 39 bus system and a real power grid from China are carried out to validate the feasibility and accuracy of the proposed method.
