Model Intelligent Vehicle System for Life Safety at T, Y -Junctions

Life safety systems in perspective of intelligent transportation have been investigated while utilizing Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communications. In this research work, we have investigated and developed a GPS based Model Intelligent Vehicles System (MIVS) using real-time communication to overcome the collisions at T and Y-junctions. MIVS empowers vehicles to anticipate and respond to the distinctive driving circumstances, accordingly. At a point of higher expectancy of a collision, the cautioning system alerts the driver to avoid the potential collision. Furthermore, if the driver continues to drive above a defined threshold of speed in accordance with variable distance, the system takes over command and applies brakes, to avoid the collision. Furthermore, the study investigates system's applicability using prototype vehicles based on Arduino as a microcontroller board. The System is equipped with GPS, transceivers for bilateral communication and brake system based on DC and Servo Motors. The experiment results reveal that the proposed collision detection and avoidance system can avoid collisions at T junctions effectively.
