Design of a Novel Ultra-Wideband Planar Magic-T

An implementation method of a novel ultrawideband planar magic-T is proposed. The magic-T is composed of an ultra-wideband 90° phase shifter and an ultra-wideband 3dB 90° hybrid coupler. A wider transmission band and a better coupling degree achieves through narrow side coupled, broadside coupled manner and etc. Three-dimensional modeling performs via the circuit simulation and software of HFSS. The simulation results are consistent with designed indices. The novel planar magic-T has a central frequency of 9 GHz with a bandwidth from 5 to 13 GHz. The relative bandwidth reaches up to 89%. Comparing output signal of sum end and difference end, the amplitude unbalance is less than 0.5dB with phase unbalance less than 3° while the input and output VSWRs are less than 1.3. The isolation between input and output ports is more than 20dB. The size of magic-T is only 13mm×5mm×1.5 mm.
