Comparative Performance Analysis of Chopper circuits in MPPT for Solar PV applications

A comparative assessment of chopper topologies and their effectiveness in tracking the Maximum Power Point (MPP) of a Photovoltaic (PV) system output is presented. This study considers different choppers like Buck, Boost, Buck-Boost, CUK and Fly back converter topologies used as intermediate for maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in (PV) system. Variation of performance in power electronic converter with change is atmospheric conditions is the primary comparative tool. MATLAB/SIMULINK platform is used to develop the modelling and implementation of the tracking algorithms. The impact of the converters tracking ability with respect changes in atmospheric parameters (solar radiation and temperature) has been carried out with Perturb and Observe (P&O) based tracking algorithms. Simulation results show that the CUK converter controlled by Perturb and Observe (P&O) based MPPT provides better output response with settling time (t

)0.5 second and no overshoot. It has also been observed that respect to the tracking of solar P. V modules moment to moment change in effective MPP due to changes in ambient conditions.
