Switch based Power Optimization Technique of SPV Arrays with Voltage and Current Compensation

Maximum power extraction from a Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV) array under non-optimal conditions like Non-Uniform Illumination (NUI) is an important requirement. Distributed Maximum Power Point Tracking (DMPPT) architecture offers relatively higher power yield with voltage and current compensation compared to DMPPT without voltage compensation. In this paper, a new switch based distributed power optimization technique with voltage and current compensation is proposed. This technique uses switches in the DMPPT architecture and operates each module at its exact Maximum Power Point (MPP). Bidirectional flyback converters are used for voltage and current (shunt-series) compensation. The proposed scheme is validated using simulation studies. The simulation results are presented for a 2x2 array with different NUI conditions.
