150GW by 2030: PV Market Outlook for Japan

Since the start of the Feed-in Tariff Program in July 2012, the PV market in Japan has been growing. Newly installed PV capacity in 2017 is estimated to be ~7 GWdc and cumulative PV installed capacity as of the end of 2017 is expected to reach 49 GW. Current Japanese national PV target is 64GW by the fiscal year (FY) 2030 and it is expected reach this capacity around 2020 with projects approved under the current FIT program. In this paper, analysis for future Japanese PV market is discussed with three scenarios based on situation of current FIT program status, grid issues, cost reduction potential is discussed and perspectives for the PV installed capacity in 2030.
