Optimal Design of FSS on Lattice Substrate for Microwave Absorption Application

This paper present a design of the frequency selective surface (FSS) on lattice substrate for microwave absorption application. First, to reduce the difficulty of theoretical modeling, the lattice substrate, which has better load-bearing properties that uniform dielectric substrate, is simplified by the effective medium theory. Second, the FSS patch unit cell is subdivided by a 16×16 grid and encoded in to bit strings based on symmetry consideration. Then, the spectral method of moment (MoM) and the particle swarm optimization algorithm are used to find optimal solution to achieve wide band absorbing property in 6-14GHz frequency range. Finally, the good agreement between calculated and simulated results demonstrates the validity of this optimization.
