Condition Monitoring of Damaged AC Power Supply Cord Using Voltage Waveform

Partial disconnection of element conductors in power supply cords stands the main root of fire originating from electrical equipment. It is usually observed in AC power supply cords of household electric appliances or in extension cords to which mechanical force is applied. Arc discharge occurs at the time of disconnection of element conductors and may results in fire accident. Since the standard conventional circuit breaker cannot prevent this type of fire accident, the establishment of fire prevention system to monitor the disconnection is highly required. In this paper, using voltage waveform analysis method, detection of disconnection of an element conductor of 100V AC power supply cord is proposed. The verification is done by doing real time experiments.
