U-Slot Loaded Rectangular Microstrip Patch Antenna for Wideband Applications

In this work, a probe fed rectangular microstrip patch antenna (RMPA) in S band have been proposed. Bandwidth enhancement is obtained by cutting a U- and two parallel rectangular slots. FR-4 substrate having dielectric constant of 4.4 and thickness of 1.6mm is used to design RMPA with an overall size of 38×48 mm

. The designed antenna is simulated using CAD FEKO antenna simulation software. The proposed antenna has VSWR bandwidth of 177 MHz (2.53 GHz to 2.71 GHz) with gain of 1.14 dBi. The proposed microstrip patch antenna is fabricated and tested. The measured bandwidth is 145 MHz, which shows good agreements between simulated and measured results.
