Model Predictive Current Control of Synchronous Reluctance Motors, Including Saturation and Iron Losses

A finite-control-set model predictive current control (FCS-MPCC) including saturation and iron losses of synchronous reluctance motors (SynRMs) is introduced in this paper. The SynRM iron losses' resistance and the direct/quadrature inductances are integrated into the main control system as lookup tables, where the values are chosen depending on the inputs. The motor's performance, under steady-state and transient conditions, of the proposed predictive scheme is analyzed and compared to that of a predictive scheme that do not take saturation and iron losses into account. Simulation and experimental results of a predictive-controlled 2.2 kW SynRM are presented. Comparison of both predictive schemes leads to the conclusion that the proposed control scheme has much smaller current and torque ripples.
