A Novel Control Scheme for a Standalone Solar PV System Employing a Multiport DC-DC Converter

A power balancing scheme for a standalone solar photovoltaic system using a single inductor based single-input dual-output positive buck-boost (SIDOBB) converter feeding dc loads using solar PV power and a battery energy storage is presented in this paper. A time-sharing controller is utilized to route the extracted solar power to dc load and feed the surplus power to the battery. A simple MPPT algorithm is selected to extract maximum power from the solar PV. The versatile switching and control scheme has been explained in detail. The state space average model has been developed for steady state and transient analysis. MATLAB simulation has been performed for both dual-output buck and boost mode of operation for different load and operating conditions. The corresponding results obtained by simulation satisfactorily demonstrate the working of the system and validates the proposed power flow balancing scheme.
