Scientific Research in Relation To Gross Domestic Product (GDP) A Comparative Study of China and India

Scientific publications are one of the fundamental indicators to reflect the growth of a nation. A strong scientific research setting is essential for economic progress and longterm sustainable development. Keeping in view the increasing importance of research in economic stability of a country, the knowledge-based economy is assumed to have much prominence. It is considered that there is a strong relation between research and overall growth of nations. Further, the spending on Research and Development (R&D) is important to have a qualitative and innovative research. The present study tries to assess research productivity in the field of Science and Technology (S&T) of the two emerging powers viz., India and China. The research productivity shall be related with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and proportion of same inverted in Research and Development (R&D). The study looks at the proportion of GDP investment in R&D helps the growth of S&T.
