Submersible Transformer Inspection Device a Change of Paradigm

The paper describes the historic development of a novel device capable of remotely inspecting a power transformer internally without any significant change in the general structure of the transformer, in particular without the time consuming and expensive oil draining and processing. In addition to the financial impact, internal inspection by humans is a significant safety issue, causing severe health risks and even possibly multiple deaths per year. The device is in fact a submersible device controlled externally and capable of transmitting high quality still images and video to a workstation located just outside the transformer. The inspection can also be followed by human experts anywhere in the world in real time.
