Preliminary Measurements of Magnetic Nanoparticles as Potential Biomarkers for Impedance Flow Cytometry

This paper investigates whether magnetic nanoparticles may be used as potential biomarkers for impedance flow cytometers. Wideband measurements of coil filled with Fe
₃
O
₄
and Gd
₂
O
₃
nanoparticles show that the magnetic nanoparticles can provide missing contrast to the electrical sensing. Specificity can be achieved by employing different kinds of nanoparticles. The measurements with coplanar waveguide, which is commonly used for cell size and granularity assessment, show that magnetic nanoparticles do not affect significantly the sensor readouts, which should allow to keep the existing sensing methods intact.
