New broadband ELF receiver for studying atmospheric discharges in central Europe

We designed a new broadband extremely low frequency receiver and a set of two active magnetic antennas. The antennas cover the frequency range of 0.01 to 900 Hz. The receiver's front end makes use of a Bessel anti-aliasing filter with the energy bandwidth of 900 Hz, which enables us to record undistorted waveforms of impulsive signals associated with lightning. In this paper, we present the design of our system and the results of our first measurement campaign.
