A low-RCS, wideband and circularly polarized metasurface antenna

This paper designs a novel circularly polarized (CP) metasurface (MS) antenna, which has the advantages of low profile, low radar cross section (RCS) and broadband operation. The MS is composed of compact polarization-dependent artificial magnetic conductors (PDAMCs). By arranging PDAMCs like a chessboard directly on the top of a circularly polarized patch antenna, the RCS can be reduced. For using a sequential-phase (SP) network and the compact structure of MS and driven patches, the antenna achieves wideband operation with high-gain performance. The simulated results indicate that the RCS at bore-sight is reduced more than 6dB from 4.87GHz to 7.34GHz and from 7.81GHz to 8.89GHz. The antenna is left-hand with the |S
