Design optimization of a SRM motor by a nature-inspired algorithm: Multi-verse optimizer

The non-sinusoidal phase current and high saturated magnetic field in switched reluctance machine(SRM) make its design very difficult. Traditional design methods are complex and require professional knowledge which make it difficult to obtain optimal scheme. This paper introduces a new global search algorithm Multi-Verse Optimizer(MVO) into SRM motor design and compares the optimal results with Genetic Algorithm(GA) method. Results show that the MVO can obtain better results with the same number of iterations and it can avoid premature and falling into local optima compared to GA. The results illustrates that the MVO method is suitable for SRM motor design.
