High precision resistance spot welding with subdural electrodes for acute electrocorticography applications

Electrocorticography (ECoG), or intracranial electroencephalography (iEEG), is a type of electrophysiological monitoring in which an array of subdural electrodes are used to record signals in ECoG. Subdural electrodes are made by welding Platinum/Stainless steel discs to Platinum/Iridium wire. Precise welding of electrode parts are essential for ensuring biocompatibility and proper impedance to curb with noise conditions which is essential for data acquisition. This paper proposes a design and implementation of a capacitor discharge type impulse current generation for resistance spot welding of subdural electrode parts. Weld strength test like tensile test and vibration test of subdural electrode parts made of stainless steel were conducted to validate the process invitro.
