Influence of residual gas ionization on interaction for high average power gyro-TWT

Influence of residual gas ionization on interaction for high average power Gyro-TWT is analyzed in this paper. The injection beam scatter by collision with residual gas, the gas ionization process, the ionized electrons and ions trajectory, bombardment effect on the tube material, and ionized electrons interaction with the millimeter wave are systemic analyzed and simulated, and verified by experiment. Based on these analyses, the problem of deterioration of the vacuum degree, performance degradation, instability, breakdown under high average power or continuous wave operation are solved by the methods of effective ions collecting and strapped ionized electron interception, accompanied by low outgassing material development. This mechanism also has an important guiding for improving the performance and reliability of other high-power electric vacuum devices.
